Despite the Pandemic, Great Progress in Haiti

The Village By Village Project has produced outstanding results this year, even after losing five months of work due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2019, the Haiti team trained and equipped nearly 11,000 Water Women. But even with the challenges this year, they have been able to help about 8,500 women become providers of clean water to their own and three other families.

“In St. Michel de Lattalaye we trained 7,380 Water Women, and in Roche Plate we added another 1,845,” said Gerry Delaquis, the Water With Blessings Haiti Coordinator. “We didn’t let the coronavirus bring us to a halt.”

“We have already started working in our next areas. We have a new project in Maissade, where we have a goal of 3,300 new Water Women. We’ve had a week there already, and will go again next week. We will also begin next week in Ferrier, where we plan to train another 2,714 Water Women. After these two weeks, we will stop for 2020 and try to complete those projects in the first half of next year.”

Gerry stresses that the Water With Blessings Haiti team takes seriously the need for precautions and safety.

“We have face masks and other supplies for all of our team members, and for all the Water Women,” Gerry said. “The Water Women are very excited to get them.”
